In a recent issue, Jairath et al. have provided an updated meta-analysis of the placebo effect in clinical trials in Crohn’s disease.[1] There are two key implications of the impact of placebo in Crohn’s disease trials. Firstly, our goal as clinicians is to make our patients feel better. Knowing that placebo can help make patients feel better in clinical trial settings should encourage us to harness what we understand about the conduct of clinical trials and what we understand about drivers of placebo response into our day to day practices.
