Background: Radical gastrectomy with extended lymph node dissection is standard for gastric cancer. The extent of lymph node dissection is defined as D1 for the perigastric area, whereas D2 lymph node dissection comprises tissue surrounding the next level of lymphatic vessels, including the hepatic artery proper, common hepatic artery, splenic vessels, and splenic hilum.
