Background: In this issue of Cancer Cell, Menghi et al. show that tandem duplications (TDs) are a common genetic feature of gynecological and triple-negative breast cancers. They also provide evidence that these TDs generate genetic alterations driving these cancers, which, if substantiated, will fundamentally change our understanding of their oncogenesis.
