Background: The rapid spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has dramatically impacted oncologic care. Current evidence suggests that the effect of the pandemic on cancer patients has been profound. Two observational studies suggest that infection rates of COVID-19 may be significantly higher in cancer patients than in the general population (Liang et al., 2020, Yu et al., 2020). Further analyses suggest that cancer patients may also be at increased risk of severe complications from COVID-19, including hospitalization, respiratory failure, and death (Dai et al., 2020, Liang et al., 2020).
